continued...

We ended off Part 1 of the story where the country mouse had arrived at the home of the town mouse.

The town mouse sought to get the country mouse quickly acquainted with the complexities of town. Always be on the lookout for dangerous and malicious cats; run as fast as your little mousey legs can carry you when the ground seemed to shake and the air thundered, horses and wheels are just as deadly; when stealing food, never ever get yourself caught. Put a mouse toe out of line and it's the end of the world. Literally.

Soon the sun went over the hills, or rather, over the big houses. The country mouse is going to experience its first night in town. Already, it is beginning to feel the stress of living an urban life with all the ducking, dashing and running for cover whenever a great shadow was cast over them and branded as an imminent threat. Honestly, when you're a 2 centimetres tall creature, any shadow would be a great shadow.

And so, our amazing small duo began their search for a source of sustenance. Their bright little noses were soon put to work, sniffing for the faintest scent of food. Ah! Aha! There was cheese to be found. They followed the trail their noses had paved out for them and were scurrying into the kitchen of a bakery within minutes. Of course, the country mouse had no idea what cheese was but its mouse instincts told it that cheese is definitely food. And mice are not usually picky.

A quick scan of the kitchen revealed an astute insight - the baker had hired an incompetent assistant. There was cheese, sugar and flour left out on the kitchen island. The town mouse being smarter and sharper was worried that there may be a cat lurking in some unknown corners of the kitchen, waiting to pounce on any unfortunate prey. Not wanting to be feline dinner, the town mouse and the country mouse exercised caution and made their way to the food.

It was soon discovered that their concern was not to be. No single enemy was in sight or out of sight at that moment. The two mice tucked in and the country mouse had its first taste of yellow cheese.

Alright, all those who have never heard the story of the town mouse and the country mouse, please raise your hand. Anyone?? Because today I'm going to tell you my version of the story of the country mouse and the town mouse.

*******

In a quiet and serene countryside, there is this lush green meadow filled with yellow dandelions. And in this meadow, there is a small mouse hole in which a country mouse resides within it. The country mouse although frequently moves about the meadow, has never in its entire life ever travelled beyond the boundaries of the countryside. Life was pretty good for this cute little mouse. You can even say it's a little too dull.

This day, another mouse suddenly appeared in the meadow of the country mouse. And my, this mouse looked different. It not only dressed differently, it spoke differently too. There is a slight aristocratic accent to its voice and its gestures are often wide and exaggerative. Now this newcomer introduced itself as the town mouse to the country mouse. It's on a journey to see the world it says and it's already about to embark on the journey home.

The country mouse got very excited and even agitated by the town mouse's unannounced and sudden visit. It wanted to go and see the world too. Therefore, the country mouse asked the town mouse to bring it along to town. Of course, the town mouse agreed. It's never a bad thing to gain a companion when one's travelling.

Soon the two mice were sightseeing in each other's company. When they arrived at the home of the town mice - town, the country mouse was in awe. He saw the big humans, the big cats and dogs and smelled the difference of town life.

"Home" by Michael Buble

Another summer day
Has come and gone away
In Paris or Rome
But I wanna go home
Mmmmmmmm

May be surrounded by
A million people I
Still feel all alone
Just wanna go home
Oh I miss you, you know

And I’ve been keeping all the letters that I wrote to you
Each one a line or two
“I’m fine baby, how are you?”
Well I would send them but I know that it’s just not enough
My words were cold and flat
And you deserve more than that

Another aeroplane
Another sunny place
I’m lucky I know
But I wanna go home
Mmmm, I gotta go home

Let me go home
I’m just too far from where you are
I wanna come home

And I feel just like I’m living someone else’s life
It’s like I just stepped outside
When everything was going right
And I know just why you could not come along with me
This was not your dream
But you always believed in me

Another winter day has come
And gone away
In either Paris or Rome
And I wanna go home
Let me go home

And I’m surrounded by
A million people I
Still feel alone
Let me go home
Oh, I miss you, you know

Let me go home
I’ve had my run
Baby, I’m done
I gotta go home
Let me go home
It'll all be alright
I’ll be home tonight
I’m coming back home
